On January 15, 2020 Alan Armstrong was interviewed by Ashley Thompson of CBS-46 about the unfortunate incident.

On January 14, 2020, Delta Flight 89 departed Los Angeles International Airport (KLAX). Four minutes after departure, the flight crew reported an engine problem and requested to return for landing. Because of the maximum structural landing weight limitations, the crew elected to dump fuel. However, the aircraft never climbed higher than 8,000 feet resulting in the fuel not fully evaporating before falling on one or more schools in the flight path of the aircraft. Ashley Thompson of CBS-46 interviewed Alan on January 15, 2020, about the flight crew’s authority to dump fuel to meet an emergency.
